Community Center Partner List

Open since November 1, 1999 this one-stop employment center, located at 1510 West Lafayette Avenue (Gilmor Street Entrance), is designed to serve youth in the Harlem Park, Lafayette Square, Poppleton and Sandtown-Winchester Self-Motivated Communities of Baltimore City.

The center is designed to serve out-of-school youth age 16-24, those youth who live in the above named areas and have either dropped out of school or graduated from high school but have barriers to employment.

Youth are linked to work and learning as they prepare for a GED and we provide extra tutoring as needed to insure success. For those who already have their GED or obtain it while here at the Community Center, we help to make the connection to go on to college.

We also offer career skills training in areas such as:

  • A+ Computer Repair
  • Construction
  • Landscaping
  • Biotechnology Technician
  • Multi-skilled Medical Technician (Nursing Assistant, EKG, Specimen Collection, CPR)

An interested youth can walk-in or call (410) 545-6950 for an appointment. A youth is seen by an Employment Advocate who screens and outlines next steps for youth, be it employment opportunities, training or remedial education. To date we have 138 youth connected to the Youth Opportunity Center.

A Program sponsored by the United States Department of Labor and
The Baltimore City Office of Employment Development
