FUTURES is a comprehensive program supporting students in ninth through twelfth grade who are at-risk of academic failure based on indicators identified by Baltimore City Public Schools staff, including reading level and attendance.

FUTURES has been proven successful with City students for more than 20 years. FUTURES students have less than a five percent dropout rate, and more than 87% of program participants secure jobs or attend college immediately after graduation.

FUTURES provides the intensive advocacy of a caring adult, tutoring, incentives, cultural enrichment and work experience, all of which are motivators for success. FUTURES is an optional program currently serving over 700 students at the following seven schools:

  • Forest Park High School #406
  • Frederick Douglass High School #450
  • Patterson High School #405
  • Institute of Business and Enterpreneurship at Walbrook Campus #435
  • Homeland Security Academy at Walbrook Campus #434
  • Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Arts #430
  • Northwestern High School #401

FUTURES is able to achieve extraordinary results by proactively working with parents to ensure students stay in school. Advocates monitor lateness on a daily basis by visiting classrooms and taking attendance. FUTURES advocates make phone calls and home visits, as needed. Additionally, students with attendance problems participate in workshops held by advocates and mental health clinicians. Finally, there are perfect attendance incentives such as pizza or submarine parties based on students’ individual incentive plans.
