Chinese Labor Officials Visit Baltimore
Eastside One-Stop Career Center hosts delegation seeking to exchange
workforce development best practices

What: A six-member delegation of labor officials from China will be visiting the United States on December 4 – 17, 2004, at the invitation of the U.S. Department of State and administered by the National Committee on United States-China Relations.

As part of the tour, the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development (MOED) in Baltimore City will host the Chinese delegation at its Eastside One-Stop Career Center to showcase best practices regarding workforce development, employee training and re-training, and public/private partnerships.

When: Tuesday, December 7, 2004, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Media interviews will be scheduled from 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at MOED’s Eastside One-Stop Career Center.

Description: Chinese labor officials will visit Washington, D.C. , Seattle, WA, and San Francisco, CA,
to create dialogue and understanding regarding how American federal, state and city
governments approach workforce development. The delegation is interested in exploring successful models, including corporate initiatives, nonprofit, and joint labor and management programs that work in conjunction with or independent of government to provide workforce development services.

The National Committee on United States-China Relations promotes understanding and cooperation between the United States and Greater China in the belief that sound and productive Sino-American relations serve vital American and world interests.

The Mayor’s Office of Employment Development in Baltimore City, as one of the United States’ premier municipal workforce development organizations, assists Baltimore City residents in building fulfilling careers and helping local businesses find the qualified workers needed to gain a competitive edge.
