Baltimore, MD - The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc. has awarded Baltimore City’s Mayor’s Office of Employment Development (MOED) a $1 million grant to increase its services to ex-offenders. The grant will help support operations through June 30, 2009 at MOED’s Re-entry Center @ the Northwest One-Stop Career Center, located at the Mondawmin Mall.

Partnering with the Enoch Pratt Library, the Learning Bank, under the auspice of COIL, Inc.(Communities Organized to Improve Life), established a new initiative. “Community Connections” is a resource initiative which provides job readiness skills, employment opportunities, career building services and instruction in Microsoft office applications to Baltimore City residents in the Southwest corridor.

Baltimore, MD - As part of a learning series of educational activities outside
the classroom, 35 ninth and tenth grade inner city students at the
Academy for College and Career Exploration (ACCE) will tour the White
House in the Nation’s Capital on Wednesday, February 15, 2006.
John Zesiger, a social studies teacher at ACCE, and his students
identified a list of historical landmarks they would like to visit
during the school year to bolster their learning experiences. The
tour was coordinated through a joint effort between ACCE and Congressman
Elijah Cummings’ office..

youth violence and gang activity in Baltimore City and identify

over 18,000 jobseekers last year as one reason the Baltimore

the Bar 2005,” a three-day regional conference for workforce
professionals to be held June 15 through 17 at the Turf Valley

Baltimore, MD - Mayor Martin O’Malley announced today that Baltimore
is hosting its first annual Race for Work, a three-mile race and one-mile
fun run or walk to raise money for the YouthWorks summer jobs program.
This fundraiser will work toward the city’s goal of raising
funds and finding jobs for 5,500 young people this summer. Race for
Work will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Druid Hill Park. The
three-mile race begins at 8 a.m. and the one-mile fun run/walk begins
at 8:30 a.m. For more information or to obtain a Race for Work registration

Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) will present the 2005
“FDIC Money Smart Alliance Partner of the Year New York Region”
award to the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development (MOED)
on April 20, 2005, at the Maryland Saves kick-off at M&T Bank
Stadium’s Southwest Club Lounge. The FDIC’s Money Smart
classes are taught in partnership with the Maryland Bankers Community
Reinvestment Group (MGCRG) at Baltimore’s four One-Stop Career
Centers. MBCRG will also receive the award along with 11 participating
financial institutions.

more than $29 million in unclaimed tax refund dollars that can be

offering free tax preparation through a partnership with the Baltimore
CASH Campaign.

that job seekers can obtain Internet and Computing Core Certification
(IC3) training at its One-Stop Career Centers’ Digital Learning
Labs. Completion of IC3 ensures that job candidates have the knowledge
and skills required for basic use of computer hardware, software,
networks and the Internet. Customers can become IC3 certified through
an industry standard computer literacy training program at no cost
at four Baltimore City sites:
