of its Westside Youth Opportunity Community Center located at 1510
W. Lafayette Avenue, in the heart of Baltimore’s Westside Empowerment

Baltimore,
MD- The Mayor's Office of Employment Development's (MOED) Employ Baltimore
division is collaborating with the national grocery store chain, Save-A-Lot,
to train employees at new stores opening up across Baltimore City.
Over 200 employees will be needed to operate the eight to nine new
Save-A-Lot locations scheduled to open in Baltimore City in 2002.
The first store's grand opening will be at 9:00 a.m. on February 14,
2002 at the Govan's location at 5315 York Road.

The
Baltimore Youth Opportunity (YO!) Center located at 1212 N. Wolfe
Street has been open for one year and is part of Baltimore's YO! Network
that serves almost 2,000 Empowerment Zone residents, ages 16 to 21.
Possible cuts to the U.S. Department of Labor's budget put the continuing
support of these centers at-risk. Congressman Cardin will tour the
YO! Center, meet some of the youth being served, and see first hand
how this grant is providing vital support to the community's young
people.

with the Mayor's Office of Employment Development (MOED) was awarded
$575,000 from the Governor's Workforce Investment Board to fund pilot
programs for skills upgrade training and services for 135 employed
or recently employed parents.

in summer jobs. Contributing to the success of this summer YouthWorks
2001 was a $949,525 Rewarding Youth Achievement grant awarded to the
City from the U.S. Department of Labor.
