Baltimore, MD – Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore Workforce Investment Board (BWIB) Chair John Ashworth announced today the release of the Talent Development Pipeline Study, which recognizes the critical link between post-secondary education and employment requirements for Baltimore’s future jobs.

Baltimore, MD – Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake thanked Baltimore City’s Congressional Delegation for their support of the YouthWorks summer jobs program at a press conference at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The delegation was successful in securing a Department of Labor grant of $575,000 that provides six-week summer jobs in high growth industries to Baltimore youth and young adults as part of YouthWorks new Baltimore Career Corps project.

Baltimore, MD - Baltimore City’s YouthWorks summer jobs program completes its first week today as thousands of youth and young adults begin their six-week work experience. More than 5,400 young people, ages 14-24, were offered summer job opportunities at more than 400 private sector and nonprofit locations throughout the city.

Baltimore, MD - Mayor’s Office of Employment Development Director Karen Sitnick was elected president of the United States Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council (WDC) at the organization’s 78th Winter Meeting last week in Washington D.C. Ms. Sitnick will lead the WDC for the next year and will continue the council’s efforts to provide a forum for Mayors and their employment and training administrators to examine all workforce development issues and to strengthen the ability of cities to meet the needs of their citizens; particularly economically disadvantaged individuals, those with serious skill deficiencies, dislocated workers, and others with special barriers to employment, including youth.
